Dark and Moody

Dark and Moody

I’ve always been drawn to the hour when the light starts to give up. The edges of a room soften, a face turns half toward a window, and everything that’s usually loud goes quiet. That’s the feeling I keep chasing, and it’s what this series is about.

Shadow doesn’t hide a person. It does the opposite. When you take away the bright, even light we’re all used to, you’re left with what matters: the line of a shoulder, the curve of a jaw, the way someone’s eyes hold the little bit of light that’s left. A single window. A candle. A doorway at dusk. In that kind of light, a portrait stops being a record of what someone looks like and becomes a record of how a moment felt.

I’m thinking about images that feel like memory, or like a scene from a story you can’t quite place. Velvet and rain-dark glass. Smoke that hasn’t decided where to go. Someone in profile, caught between one thought and the next. Some frames will be still and heavy, and some will have a little tension, like something is about to happen. I want them to feel quiet but not empty.

The images that inspired this series are what got me started, but I don’t want to build it alone. The best work happens when the person in front of the camera shapes it with me. Please tell me what mood you’re drawn to, what you’ve always wanted to see yourself as, or what story you’d like to be inside of. I’ll bring the light and direction, and you bring the rest.

This is open to everyone. All genders, sizes, shapes, and colors are welcome. You don’t need modeling experience or any experience at all. I’ll guide you through every pose and moment, and nothing will happen that you’re not comfortable with. Your comfort and your ideas matter as much as mine.

A few practical things:

  • You’ll receive digital copies of the fully edited images, with personal use and print rights.
  • You’re welcome to bring someone along to the shoot.
  • I shoot in and around Pittsburgh.

If this speaks to you, book your shoot here, or reach out if you’d rather talk through an idea first. I’d love to hear it, even if it’s half-formed. Those are often the best ones.
